"No plant grows in opposition to the laws of nature. Likewise, people grow and mature within human society. Through interacting with others, we are able to develop our character and fulfil our purpose in life. As Nichiren Daishonin writes: 'A person of wisdom is not one who practises Buddhism apart from worldly affairs but, rather, one who thoroughly understands the principles by which the world is governed' (WND-1, 1121). Buddhism does not exist apart from human society. A truly wise person, therefore, is one who thoroughly understands the ways of society, contributes to society, and succeeds in society."
